A new chapter in Botswana’s evolving wine culture unfolds this March as Chartered PR Practitioner, wine writer and experience host Phenyo Motlhagodi brings together enthusiasts for a Vintage Wine Tasting Experience at Kasimba Boutique Hotel, Mokolodi 1.
More than a single event, the tasting forms part of a broader vision to build a connected, informed and curious wine community — one that moves beyond casual consumption toward discovery, learning and shared appreciation.
“This is part of a longer journey,” says Motlhagodi. “It’s about creating spaces where people can engage with wine more deeply — understanding where it comes from, how it evolves, and why it matters. Wine becomes more meaningful the more you know.”
The experience will feature a carefully assembled selection of South African wines spanning multiple decades, sourced from private cellars and select distributors. It is positioned as a celebration of South Africa’s wine regions, winemakers and ageing potential, offering guests a rare opportunity to explore how time shapes character, structure and complexity in the glass.
Guests will enjoy a self-paced tasting format, complemented by gourmet canapés, artisan cheese selections and freshly brewed coffee, creating a layered sensory experience that extends beyond wine alone.
“Wine is a beautiful thing,” Motlhagodi adds. “And the more you understand it, the more it opens. This is about inviting people into that world.”
Importantly, the event is designed for a growing audience of wine enthusiasts who are seeking more — more discovery, more depth, and more connection with like-minded individuals.
“People are becoming more curious,” Motlhagodi notes. “They want to move beyond the familiar and start exploring. Creating that kind of community is a win for everyone — distributors, retailers, restaurants and ultimately the consumer.”
The event also introduces guests to rare and limited bottles, including older vintages not typically available in the local market. Select wines will be available for purchase, enabling attendees to take part in the experience beyond the tasting itself.
Looking ahead, Motlhagodi confirms that this is only the beginning. Plans are underway to launch a monthly wine membership programme, which will offer curated access to wines, educational experiences, and potential retail benefits.
“It won’t just be about gatherings,” he says. “It’s about access — to wines, to knowledge, and to a community that is growing together.”
With a track record of delivering immersive wine-led experiences that blend wine, food, music and storytelling, Motlhagodi continues to position Botswana as a market ready for more sophisticated and culturally relevant wine engagement.
The Vintage Wine Tasting Experience is expected to attract a diverse audience of professionals, creatives and collectors, all drawn by a shared interest in wine as both a craft and a culture.
