MultiChoice Botswana, a Canal+ company, is proud to announce the upcoming premiere of three locally produced films. Route 2, Abashwe, and Moporofete: The Prophet are set to debut exclusively on Mzansi Magic this November. The movies by acclaimed Botswana filmmakers Afentse Fenny Lekolwane, Johnson Otlaadisa and Tumelo Chaba cement Botswana’s standing as a major creative force in the film landscape.

Route 2 is a beautifully absurd and visually striking tale of survival, loneliness, and the unpredictable magic of shared journeys. The film takes viewers on an emotional road trip that explores how human connection often emerges from the most unexpected detours in life. It is a story about rediscovery, resilience, and the unpredictable beauty of chaos, reminding audiences that sometimes the journey itself holds more meaning than the destination.

These films offer a unique opportunity to experience compelling stories that resonate with local audiences. They highlight Botswana’s rich cultural heritage and diverse narratives and sshowcase the exceptional talent of local filmmakers and actors.

The Prophet unpacks themes of betrayal, vengeance, and redemption. After his father loses a million-pula property to a manipulative church, a tragedy that leads to the untimely death of both his parents. Jacob creates a fake prophetic ministry to exact revenge. Yet, when love unexpectedly finds him, he faces a moral crossroads between forgiveness and vengeance. The Prophet captures the complexity of faith and human emotion, offering a raw look at how trauma can shape belief and identity.

Abashwe follows the emotional journey of a resilient single mother who has long given up on love. Scarred by past disappointments, she remains skeptical—even when she meets a charming young executive who appears genuinely interested in her. The film explores the fragility of trust and the courage it takes to be vulnerable.

These films offer a unique opportunity to experience compelling stories that resonate with local audiences. They highlight Botswana’s rich cultural heritage and diverse narratives and sshowcase the exceptional talent of local filmmakers and actors.

The elated MultiChoice Botswana Managing Director Stephanie Pillay could not hide her excitement: “We are thrilled to bring these incredible local films to our viewers. Our commitment to local content is unwavering, and we believe these films will inspire and entertain audiences of all ages. By supporting local filmmakers, we are investing in the future of Botswana’s creative industry.”

Local film productions not only provide a platform for emerging filmmakers and actors but also contribute to the growth of the local economy. They create jobs, foster creativity, and build a sustainable community of storytellers who capture the essence of the region and its people.
