The nation is mourning the death of celebrated musician Atlasaone “A.T.I” Molemogi, whose family has confirmed his passing in a statement released on Sunday.

“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of A.T.I, a son, a brother, a friend, and a national icon,” read the family’s statement.

Widely regarded as one of Botswana’s most influential artists, A.T.I’s music not only entertained but also inspired. Known for his authenticity and electrifying performances, he cultivated a devoted following that admired his courage, lyrical depth, and ability to speak to societal struggles.

In their tribute, the family described him as “more than an entertainer. He was a cultural force, a voice of hope, and a light to countless people who found strength in his music and his message. He lived authentically, gave generously of his talent, and inspired unity and courage in every stage he touched.”

The family further noted that “today, Botswana mourns together. We have lost not just an artist, but a national treasure whose legacy will echo through generations.”

A.T.I, affectionately known as Half Man Half Amazing, rose to prominence with a string of hits that cemented his place at the forefront of Botswana’s music scene. Over the years, he became a household name, celebrated for both his artistry and his advocacy for mental health awareness.

The family has requested privacy while funeral arrangements are being finalized. “Details of the memorial will be communicated in due course by the family,” the statement added.

They also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love: “We extend heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, love, and support pouring in from across the country and beyond. Let us remember him not only as the icon he was, but as the son, brother, and friend whose humanity touched us all.”
