The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has officially restored the membership of former party leader, Lt. Gen. Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, marking a significant step in its ongoing Peace Building and Reconciliation exercise. The exercise, spearheaded by BDP President Mr. Mpho Balopi, aims to align party operations with its constitutional principles of Democracy, Botho, and Unity, under the banner of KAGISANO. A review of past membership terminations and suspensions revealed that some disciplinary actions had been unprocedural or disproportionate.
“As a result, it has become necessary to correct these measures in the spirit of our principles,” the party said in a statement.

Alongside Khama, the BDP also reinstated full membership rights to:Ms. Mantsa Miriam Sekgoroane of Goodhope-Mmathethe, whose suspension has been lifted.
Brig. (Ret) Mbakiso Mukokoman of Tati West, who also has had his suspension lifted.
The party confirmed that these members can now exercise all rights and responsibilities afforded under the BDP constitution.
The reconciliation process is ongoing, and the party has invited other members who feel they were unfairly treated in the past to submit requests for review. “We have no intention of leaving anyone behind in this exercise,” the statement said.
The announcement was issued by Kentse Spencer Rammidi, Secretary General of the BDP.
