    The public is advised that the notice issued by the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) on the 17th of December 2025 is a tariff application and not a tariff increase. No tariff increase has been approved at this stage. Any decision will follow due regulatory processes and public consultation.

    Kindly note the process as follows;

    Submission of a tariff application by Botswana Power Corporation to BERA with a proposed tariff structure and rates;

    • BERA undertakes an initial review to confirm completeness of the application and assess compliance with regulatory requirements:
    • BERA publishes a public notice on the application for proposed tariff adjustment in line with principles of transparency and receives public submissions as is the case now.
    • The Authority further calls for a stakeholder consultation and public hearing to consult with stakeholders where affected parties may make representations for or against application.
    • BPC will be required to present and respond to issues raised by stakeholders.
    • BERA assesses the application considering inputs from all stakeholders in balancing consumer protection and financial viability of BPC. A decision is made and issued formally to the applicant and communicated to the public.
    • Stakeholders and the public are therefore invited to review and comment on the BPC tariff application through written submissions, by 30th January 2026.

    The public hearing will be on Tuesday 10th February 2026 at Grand Area Hotel West Gate Mall (near BTV), Gaborone.
