KASANE- Botswana is set to host the prestigious SHERQ Impact Awards Botswana 2026, a national and regional platform aimed at advancing excellence in Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality (SHERQ). The event will take place on 27–28 April 2026 in Kasane, in the Chobe District, and is expected to draw government leaders, industry experts and professionals from across Botswana and the wider Southern African Development Community region.
The awards and conference are hosted by S.H.E ON STANDBY in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs through the Department of Occupational Health and Safety. The initiative seeks to recognise organisations, individuals and programmes making measurable contributions to workplace safety, sustainability and operational excellence across industries.
The 2026 edition will be held under the theme “Protecting People, Preserving Our Future,” reflecting growing regional emphasis on responsible governance, employee wellbeing and environmental stewardship.
A major highlight of the gathering will be a keynote address by Pius Mokgware, Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, who is expected to reaffirm government commitment to strengthening occupational health and safety systems and ensuring the protection of workers across all sectors of the economy.
“This platform is about more than recognition, it is about driving a culture where safety, health and sustainability are embedded into how we work, lead and build our future,” Mmusi said.
Organisers say the two-day conference will feature high-level presentations, expert-led discussions on safety leadership and ESG principles, and sessions focusing on psychosocial risks, workplace wellness and innovation in safety management. The programme also includes networking activities designed to showcase the Kasane–Chobe tourism destination as a venue for regional professional events.
The SHERQ Impact Awards ceremony will recognise excellence in multiple categories covering corporate performance, individual leadership and regional SADC achievements, highlighting organisations that demonstrate innovation, compliance and measurable impact in the SHERQ space.
Ahead of the main event, organisers will host a pre-conference capacity-building programme from 18–22 April 2026, expected to train more than 100 safety representatives, shop stewards and employees in practical skills aimed at strengthening workplace safety culture across Botswana.
The conference will coincide with the global commemoration of World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April 2026, positioning Botswana at the centre of regional discussions on safety, sustainability and responsible business practices.
Speaking on the initiative, Nthabiseng Mmusi, founder of S.H.E ON STANDBY and convener of the SHERQ Impact Awards Botswana, said the platform is intended to drive long-term cultural change in workplaces.
