Botswana proudly announces that the Okavango Delta has been voted the “Best  Destination for a Sustainable Safari” at the 2025 TRAVELBOOK Awards, held on 23 September in Berlin, Germany.

Organised by Travelbook Axel Springer Deutschland GmbH, the TRAVELBOOK Awards are Germany’s largest tourism  industry awards, recognising destinations that excel in attractiveness, sustainability, innovation, and hospitality, as  determined by readers, experts, and the editorial team. The Okavango Delta received 45% of the votes, outperforming  other leading destinations including Iona National Park (Angola), Madikwe Game Reserve (South Africa), Pantanal  National Park (Brazil), and Tabin Game Reserve (Malaysia).

The Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world’s largest inland delta, was celebrated for its  exceptional landscapes, protected environment, and sustainable tourism initiatives. The award underscores Botswana’s  commitment to conservation and positions the country as a world-class safari and ecotourism destination.

On behalf of the Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO), Chargé d’Affaires Mercy Segopodiso Matlho accepted the  award, highlighting that “the award honours all the people in Botswana who keep our heritage alive,” and expressed  appreciation to Germany for supporting sustainability projects in Botswana.
