The quiet village of Masunga came alive this past weekend as it rolled out the red carpet for its beloved daughter, Ruth Thomas—Miss Botswana 2025. In a heartfelt and historic celebration, Ruth became the first woman from the village to wear the coveted crown, and Masunga responded with pride, unity, and jubilation.

The homecoming was nothing short of regal. Locals lined the streets for a vibrant motorcade that paraded through the village, waving flags and cheering as Ruth greeted them with grace and joy. The parade culminated in a warm reception at the Main Kgotla, where cultural performances and speeches set the tone for a day rooted in heritage and hope.

Speaking during the celebrations, Miss World Botswana Director Benjamin Raletsatsi described the moment as prophetic. “Ruth becoming Miss Botswana was prophesied. When I arrived, Kgosi reminded me of a conversation we had 19 years ago about transforming Masunga. Today, he showed me the very walls where change has taken shape,” he said. “I leave Masunga uplifted, because I know we are a nation moving forward with bold dreams.”

Indeed, the community’s embrace of Ruth was generous and heartfelt. As a token of love and support, she was presented with a variety of gifts including a brand-new television, kitchen appliances, and a cash donation of P10,000—symbols of Masunga’s pride and belief in her journey.

Kgosi Thabo Maruja III praised Ruth as a beacon of leadership and a symbol of national unity. “We are proud because a Motswana child has done their absolute best—a daughter of this district, a daughter of this nation. Ruth, integrity will take you far. You are Botswana’s seed, pray for your country and unify this nation,” he said.

The ceremony was graced by several distinguished guests, including MmaKgosi Edith Maruje, Kgosi Thabo Monaga, Hon. Councillor Dude and Mrs Dube, as well as Assistant District Commissioner Mme Ramotiti. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the village’s collective commitment to Ruth’s success.

In an emotional speech, Ruth expressed profound gratitude to the community that raised her. “You came in multitudes I did not expect. When I saw you during the motorcade, I said ‘God, what have you done?’ This is more than a dream, it is a prophecy fulfilled,” she said.

Reflecting on the strength of her roots, Ruth added, “Masunga is a village of big things. When people see me, they will know smart, beautiful women come from here. I invite you to walk with me as we show Botswana what is possible when a village stands behind its daughter.”

The Miss Botswana Organization applauded the village for setting a national example in how to celebrate a queen. “This was more than a homecoming—it was a royal and historic welcome,” the organization said.

As Ruth Thomas sets her sights on the global Miss World 2025 stage, she carries with her not just a title, but the love, strength, and spirit of Masunga—a village that has already crowned her with purpose and pride.
