The Botswana Football League (BFL) has issued a rebuttal against circulating claims on social media suggesting that its Chief Executive Officer, Bennett Mamelodi, has been suspended from office.

In an official statement released on Sunday July 13, 2025 BFL Chairman Emolemo Peter Kesitilwe described the reports as “entirely false and misleading,” adding that no such decision has been taken by the BFL Board.

“Mr. Mamelodi has not been suspended, nor is there any decision of the Board to that effect,” read the statement.

The clarification follows a wave of online speculation from some social media pages, which alleged that Mamelodi was suspended following a resolution at the League’s Annual General Assembly (AGA) held on July 12 in Palapye. The posts further claimed that the suspension was related to alleged financial mismanagement and other irregularities.

However, the BFL insists that while the AGA did take place and matters concerning governance, sponsorships, and commercial agreements were discussed, no motion to suspend the CEO was passed.

“We wish to assure all stakeholders—clubs, sponsors, partners, and supporters—that the BFL leadership remains focused on advancing football development and ensuring sound administration of the League,” Kesitilwe said.

The League also cautioned members of the public and the media to seek confirmation from official BFL channels before sharing unverified information that could cause confusion or damage reputations.
