The Botswana Consumer Fair has grown into a major economic platform that supports hundreds of local businesses and attracts more than 36,000 visitors annually.
Now in its 19th year, the fair hosts more than 550 exhibitors and has evolved from a traditional trade exhibition into one of Botswana’s largest business and consumer events.
Fairground Holdings Chief Executive Officer Gorata Gabaraane said the fair’s economic impact extends far beyond the exhibition halls, creating opportunities for citizen-owned enterprises across multiple sectors.
“The Botswana Consumer Fair is more than an event. It is a catalyst for economic activity, a launchpad for entrepreneurs and a marketplace where businesses connect with consumers,” she said.
The organisers said local companies benefit from procurement opportunities linked to the fair, including construction, branding, printing, catering, logistics, security, cleaning services, entertainment and technology support.
“The Botswana Consumer Fair is more than an event. It is a catalyst for economic activity, a launchpad for entrepreneurs and a marketplace where businesses connect with consumers,” she said.
Fairground Holdings Board Director Bontle Lebang-Kgetse said the event has deliberately prioritised local suppliers and small businesses as part of its contribution to citizen economic empowerment.
She noted that every exhibition stand built, every meal served and every service provided during the fair contributes to business growth and job creation.
Chandra Chauhan, Group Managing Director of Sefalana Holdings, said the fair demonstrates the importance of creating opportunities for emerging enterprises to access markets and customers.
He said successful economies depend on strong partnerships between established businesses and smaller enterprises, adding that platforms such as the Botswana Consumer Fair help businesses showcase products, test new ideas and expand their customer base.
The event’s continued growth comes as Botswana seeks to diversify its economy and strengthen citizen participation in business activity.
This year’s fair, held under the theme “Showcasing Botswana in Full Colour”, features exhibitors from sectors including retail, manufacturing, tourism, agriculture, technology and financial services.
