Member of Parliament for Kgatleng East, Mabuse Pule has vowed to pursue urgent action on the long-delayed Modipane–Mabalane road project. He cited growing frustration among residents as the route remains impassable.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Pule confirmed that the project has stalled due to ongoing legal disputes between the main contractor and a subcontractor, which have now spilled into the courts.
“As previously communicated, the matter was scheduled to be heard before the Court of Appeal on Friday, 20th March 2026,” Pule said. “Regrettably, I must inform you that the hearing has been postponed… arising from pending procedural and interlocutory matters requiring prior determination by the court.”
He added that a new hearing date is yet to be allocated, further prolonging uncertainty over the project’s future.
The Modipane–Mabalane road is a critical link for several villages in the Kgatleng District and its deterioration has raised safety concerns particularly during the rainy season when sections become flooded and inaccessible.
The legislator did not mince words about the worsening state of the road describing the situation as “both unacceptable and deeply concerning.” He revealed that recent reports indicate that residents and schoolchildren are bearing the brunt of the delays.
“Just yesterday, it was brought to my attention that students and residents from affected villages were unable to travel, with some learners missing school due to the impassable and waterlogged state of the road,” he said.

Despite the legal setbacks, Pule assured constituents that he remains actively engaged and committed to resolving the matter.
“I fully appreciate and share your frustration and concern… I remain actively engaged on this matter,” he said. “While fully respecting the independence of the judiciary and the integrity of the legal process, I will continue to make sustained representations to the Honourable Minister.”
He stressed the need for urgency as he called for “all lawful and administrative avenues” to be explored to fast-track the resolution of the dispute and allow construction to resume.
“The hardship faced by our communities cannot be allowed to persist indefinitely,” Pule said.
