In a music landscape where genres increasingly blur into one another and audiences demand more than a night of back-to-back performances, Simply Piano is preparing to return with its most ambitious edition yet.
On September 25, Royal Aria in Tlokweng will host the fourth edition of the event, now rebranded as Sunbet Simply Piano following the arrival of Sunbet as headline partner. What began as a celebration of Amapiano has steadily evolved into a bigger showcase of contemporary African music, culture and nightlife.
This year’s lineup reflects that evolution. South African heavyweights Focalistic, Cassper Nyovest, 031Choppa, Amaroto, Nadia Nakai and Moozlie headline a bill that also features Danya-Devs, Sami Kay, Cowboii and a host of other performers drawn from across the region’s entertainment scene.
“Simply Piano has grown from being a Piano-focused event into a much broader entertainment experience,” they said in a statement. “With every edition, we have challenged ourselves to make the event bigger, more diverse and more memorable, while still retaining the identity that made people fall in love with Simply Piano in the first place.”
Away from the headline acts, an extensive DJ roster promises to keep the energy levels high throughout the evening. Cassper the DJ, DJ Bunny, DJ Lentle, Leb G, Buru, Vera, Fizzy BW, Pekay, Benny and DJ Chrispin are all scheduled to perform, while NayaBSZN and MC Theo will steer proceedings as hosts.
The organisers say the event’s growth has been deliberate. “Simply Piano has grown from being a Piano-focused event into a much broader entertainment experience,” they said in a statement. “With every edition, we have challenged ourselves to make the event bigger, more diverse and more memorable, while still retaining the identity that made people fall in love with Simply Piano in the first place.”
While Amapiano remains the foundation, the organisers say the modern music fan rarely listens within the boundaries of a single genre.
“We start with the understanding that our audience is diverse,” they said. “Although Amapiano is central to the Simply Piano identity, we don’t want to create an event where every artist sounds the same.”
The result is a lineup designed to move seamlessly between sounds, from Piano and hip-hop to dance and house, reflecting the increasingly interconnected nature of African popular music. But organisers insist the attraction goes beyond the artists themselves. “People are coming to dance, listen to great music, see some of their favourite artists and spend time with friends, but there is something bigger happening,” they said.
That “something bigger” is the experience the festival hopes to create — a space where audiences discover new music, encounter unexpected performances and immerse themselves in a night designed as much around atmosphere as it is around star power.
To support that vision, organisers are promising a significant production upgrade, including a state-of-the-art stage setup tailored to match the scale of the event. Enhanced security measures will also be in place to ensure a safe environment for patrons, artists and staff. With a blockbuster lineup, upgraded production and growing anticipation around the event’s return, organisers are urging fans to secure tickets early. “We are not just bringing back Simply Piano,” they said. “We are bringing it back as Sunbet Simply Piano, with a bigger lineup, a broader musical offering and an experience we believe will give people plenty to talk about afterwards.”
