Five local football fans travelled to South Africa after winning Visa’s FIFA World Cup Watch Party competition, earning an opportunity to experience the atmosphere surrounding the FIFA World Cup Final in Johannesburg.
The winners were officially sent off during an event held at the Protea Hotel in Gaborone. The gathering brought together football supporters, members of the media and officials from the Botswana Football Association to celebrate the winners before their departure.
The winners were Thato Moshomo, Tumisang Sekokonyane, Nikki Chigodora, Tapiwa Gondo and Elizabeth Bough. They qualified through promotions run by participating Visa card issuers, including Standard Chartered Bank Botswana, Absa Bank Botswana and First National Bank Botswana. Each winner travelled with three companions to attend Visa’s exclusive FIFA World Cup Final Watch Party on July 19. The prize package included accommodation, meals, local transport, curated activities and spending money. Winners also travelled in branded vehicles as part of the experience.
The campaign also highlighted the close links between Botswana and South Africa. Visa noted that the two countries shared strong ties through trade, tourism and business, making cross-border travel a routine part of life for many residents.
Visa Botswana Country Manager Amon Magunje said the initiative was designed to bring supporters closer to the game while creating memorable experiences through football.
He said the company was delighted to celebrate the winners as they embarked on their journey to South Africa to join fellow supporters for what promised to be a memorable FIFA World Cup Final experience. He added that football had a unique ability to bring people together and create lasting memories across borders.
