Botswana’s athletes delivered stellar performances at the 2025 Wanda Diamond League meeting in Doha on Friday, with Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo and middle-distance runner Tshepiso Masalela both clinching victories in their respective events.

In the men’s 200 meters, Tebogo narrowly edged out American Courtney Lindsey, clocking 20.10 seconds to Lindsey’s 20.11. The 21-year-old, making his Doha debut, eased up prematurely but managed to secure the win by a mere 0.01 seconds.

Tebogo, who made history by winning Botswana’s first Olympic gold medal in the 200m at the Paris Games with a time of 19.46 seconds, has continued to build on his success. Earlier this year, he was honored with the inaugural Jesse Owens Rising Star Award at the Diamond League Final in Brussels.

In the men’s 800 meters, Tshepiso Masalela delivered a commanding performance, winning the race and recording the best time in the world for the year.
The Doha Diamond League meeting featured a host of world-class performances, including Jamaican sprinters Tia and Tina Clayton finishing first and second in the women’s 100 meters, and Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra setting a personal best and national record.
