Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) offices across Botswana were overwhelmed today as customers rushed to take advantage of the final hours of the Debt Amnesty Campaign, which ends at midnight.

The initiative, introduced to ease the burden of outstanding water bills, offers eligible customers a 50% discount on debts accrued up to December 2024. The remaining balance is to be settled through agreed-upon repayment terms.

In the weeks leading up to the deadline, WUC deployed outreach teams across the country to raise awareness and assist with applications. The teams visited towns and villages to ensure customers were informed about the amnesty and supported through the process.

Today’s turnout reflects the widespread response to the campaign, with long queues forming outside service centers in major towns and rural areas alike. Many customers arrived early, hoping to secure assistance before the deadline passed.

The Corporation has described the campaign as part of a broader effort to encourage repayment compliance while supporting those who have fallen into arrears. WUC has stated there will be no extension of the deadline.
