Moshupa Primary Hospital is nearing completion, with a formal commissioning scheduled to take place before the end of November 2025. This was revealed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Stephen Modise, in response to a parliamentary question from Karabo Gare, Member of Parliament for Moshupa-Manyana.

Addressing Parliament, Minister Modise said the construction of the 70-bed hospital currently stands at 96% completion, with a partial handover of key sections, including the administration block and stores, expected by the end of August. This will allow for critical preparatory work such as staff orientation, installation of medical equipment, and logistical planning ahead of full commissioning.

“The remaining sections of the hospital are scheduled for completion by the end of October 2025, pending final inspections and finishing works. We remain confident that all timelines will be met without compromising safety and quality standards,” Modise said.

Once fully operational, Moshupa Primary Hospital will offer a comprehensive suite of curative, preventative, and rehabilitative services to serve Moshupa and surrounding communities. Outpatient services will include a General Outpatient Department (OPD) and specialized clinics for eye care, non-communicable diseases, mental health, oral health, physiotherapy, dietetics, youth-friendly services, and antiretroviral therapy.

Inpatient services will cover general medical, surgical, gynecological, pediatric, maternity, and psychiatric care. The hospital will also include designated facilities for Tuberculosis isolation, in line with national public health priorities.

Essential diagnostic and support services such as laboratory testing, radiology, pharmacy, and medical equipment maintenance will be available on-site. Daily hospital operations will be supported by fully functional kitchen, laundry, mortuary, and transport services, including both ambulance and non-ambulance vehicles.

Modise also revealed that the hospital is expected to have a total staff complement of 365 personnel. This will include clinical, administrative, and support services staff. However, to date only 136 staff members have been recruited, with ongoing efforts to fill the remaining positions ahead of commissioning.

The hospital project, originally scheduled for completion in May 2022, suffered delays due to the non-performance of a mechanical sub-contractor who was later terminated in December 2022. A new contractor was appointed in November 2023 to complete the remaining work. Government cash flow constraints also contributed to delays, with late payments to the contractor further slowing progress.

Procurement of hospital furniture, biomedical equipment, and ICT infrastructure is currently ongoing and at various stages of completion, according to the Ministry.
