The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has announced plans to visit Serowe on the weekend of 23 August 2025 to formally apologise to Kgosikgolo Khama IV and the Morafe wa Bangwato.

In a statement released today, BDP Secretary General Kentse Spencer Rammidi said the party leadership will meet with Kgosikgolo Khama IV, his uncles, and the Bogosi to address past grievances and restore peace and justice.

“The Botswana Democratic Party pledges to pursue a policy of justice and peace as enshrined under Preamble C of our Party Constitution,” Mr. Rammidi said. He emphasized that the party holds dear the belief that “ntwa kgolo ke ya molomo” (great battles are fought with words) and “mafoko a kgotla a mantle otlhe” (the words of the kgotla belong to all).

The apology stems from an acknowledged mistake by the former BDP government, which reportedly refused Bangwato the use of their kgotla to deliberate on issues concerning their Kgosikgolo. The party described this as a regrettable affront not only to Bangwato’s traditions but also to the broader culture of the Batswana nation.

“We accept that this was not only wrong but an affront to the traditions and culture of not only Bangwato but of Batswana as a nation,” the statement read.

Rammidi expressed gratitude to Kgosikgolo Khama IV and the Bangwato leadership for granting the BDP the opportunity to make amends.
