BOMRA Hosts Global Health Analytics Group from Uganda

Gaborone, Botswana – The Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) is  hosting a team of experts from the Global Health Analytics Group, based in Uganda, from 26th to 28th August 2025. The delegation is led by renowned public health data scientist Dr. Simon Kasasa, and the visit marks a significant step in BoMRA’s efforts to enhance its Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) capacity.

The collaboration is aimed at supporting BoMRA in establishing a robust M&E unit to improve regulatory effectiveness and data-driven decision-making. The visit will focus on the following key areas:

  • Understanding BoMRA’s existing data and M&E systems
  • Jointly identifying and analyzing gaps in data, statistics, and M&E processes across regulatory functions
  • Prioritizing areas for capacity development and technical support

Dr. Seima Dijeng, Chief Executive Officer at BoMRA emphasized that National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) are increasingly leveraging real-world evidence and data analytics to inform regulatory decision-making. This includes the use of observational studies, electronic health records, and big data analytics to assess the effectiveness and safety of medicines in real-world settings.

The engagement between BoMRA and the Global Health Analytics Group aligns with Botswana’s broader commitment to strengthening regulatory systems and ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of medical products available in the country it also reflects BoMRA’s dedication to evidence-based regulation and international collaboration in public health.
