The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is proud to announce the appointment of 𝐌𝐑. 𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐎𝐁𝐀 as its new Executive Secretary (ES), effective immediately. Mr. Makoba succeeds Ms. Reobonye Merafhe, whose contract ended on August 31st, 2025.
Mr. Makoba brings with him not only a wealth of administrative and political experience, but also a demonstrated passion for service and an unwavering commitment to the values of the BDP.
A seasoned hand at Tsholetsa House, Mr. Makoba has previously served as Deputy Executive Secretary and held the position of Executive Secretary on two occasions. Notably, his leadership played a pivotal role in the Party’s victory at the 2019 General Elections, before his transition into public service. Over the years, he has contributed across multiple structures of the Party from Cell, Youth, Branch, PEEC, Communications, Strategy, to the Electoral Board reflecting his deep-rooted connection with both leadership and grassroots membership.
Beyond his service to the Party, Mr. Makoba has built a distinguished career as a trusted leader, community builder, and relationship strategist with a people-centered approach. He is widely respected as a team builder and transformation-focused champion, with experience spanning Botswana Television, In Synch Media, Office of the President, ReconAfrica, and entrepreneurship. He consistently demonstrates an ability to inspire teams, strengthen partnerships, and drive impact for people and communities alike.
Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Finance and a Master of Research and Public Policy from the University of Botswana and is a certified writer and speaker through HarvardX. This strong foundation combining policy insight, financial acumen, and communication expertise equips him to bring renewed value, direction, and innovation to the BDP Secretariat.
In his new role, Mr. Makoba will serve in part as clerk of the Central Committee and lead the BDP Secretariat staff with a mandate for peak performance and transformation. He is expected to champion a renewed culture of efficiency, inclusion, and results, as the Party prepares for a new era of policy excellence, people-centered renewal, and electoral strength.
The BDP Central Committee expresses its full confidence in Mr. Makoba’s leadership and vision and looks forward to working with him to drive the Party’s continued unity, growth, and renewal.
