Botswana’s Olympic silver medalist Nijel Amos has announced his appointment as the National Middle Distance Head Coach of the Islamic Republic of Iran, marking a significant new chapter in his illustrious athletics journey.

In a heartfelt post on his official Facebook page, Amos said he was “humbled and excited” to take on the role, describing it as an opportunity to share his experience and inspire a new generation of athletes. “This is a chance to share what I’ve learned, to guide and inspire athletes, and to make an impact in a different way,” he wrote. “Sport has always been my passion, and now I get to help shape the next generation of champions.”

The 30-year-old athlete, who won Botswana’s first-ever Olympic medal when he claimed silver in the men’s 800 meters at the 2012 London Olympics, expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and supporters for their unwavering encouragement throughout his career. He also paid tribute to his late grandmother, saying her love and guidance continue to inspire him every day.

“Life is full of unexpected turns, and sometimes, those turns lead us to the most incredible opportunities,” Amos reflected. “Here’s to embracing new beginnings, chasing purpose, and stepping into this exciting journey with a full heart.”

Amos’ transition into coaching marks a new phase for one of Botswana’s most celebrated athletes. Known for his blistering pace and tactical brilliance on the track, he is now set to bring his wealth of international experience to Iran’s athletics program as the nation seeks to strengthen its middle-distance performance on the global stage.
