Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) has suspended load-shedding with immediate effect following an improvement in national power generation, the utility announced on Thursday.

In a public notice, BPC said the development is driven by the successful restoration of a generating unit at Morupule B Power Station (MBPS). The repaired unit has significantly improved baseload generation capacity, resulting in a more stable electricity supply.

According to the corporation, the return of the unit marks a key milestone in efforts to stabilise the power system after months of rotational cuts that have affected households, businesses and essential services.

Despite the positive development, BPC cautioned that the overall power supply situation “remains dynamic,” warning that unexpected fluctuations in generation could still occur. The utility said strategic interventions, including the possible reintroduction of load shedding, may be required in future to maintain supply-demand balance and protect grid stability.

BPC also urged the public to continue practising energy-saving measures, particularly during peak demand hours—between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM, and again from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Sustained conservation efforts, the corporation said, will support long-term power management and reduce pressure on the system.

The power utility further commended its technical teams for what it described as “exceptional efforts” in expediting repairs and exceeding the planned timeline for restoring the affected unit.

In the statement, BPC expressed appreciation to customers for their patience and cooperation during the challenging months of load shedding.
