Botswana Public Officers Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) has announced that it has begun processing long-outstanding claims payments to healthcare providers, following weeks of concern over delayed reimbursements.
In a circular dated 6 February 2026, BPOMAS informed healthcare providers that two payment runs would be processed on Friday evening, covering outstanding claims for December 2025 and January 2026. The scheme indicated that payment statements would be uploaded from the same day, with funds expected to reflect in providers’ bank accounts from Monday, 9 February 2026.
The update follows a previous communication issued on 29 January 2026, in which BPOMAS acknowledged delays in claims payments and committed to issuing weekly updates to affected providers.
“We acknowledge the disruption and operational challenges as well as the inconvenience caused by these delays and sincerely apologise,” the scheme said, thanking providers for their patience and continued cooperation during what it described as a “trying period.”
BPOMAS admitted that the delays had caused disruption and operational challenges within the healthcare sector, offering an apology to service providers.
“We acknowledge the disruption and operational challenges as well as the inconvenience caused by these delays and sincerely apologise,” the scheme said, thanking providers for their patience and continued cooperation during what it described as a “trying period.”
Healthcare providers have in recent months raised concerns that delayed payments were affecting service delivery, cash flow, and the ability to procure medical supplies, particularly in private clinics and pharmacies.
BPOMAS advised providers requiring further clarification to contact its scheme administrators, Health Risk Management Botswana (HRMB), through its call centre or senior management offices.
The latest announcement is expected to bring temporary relief to healthcare providers who have been awaiting payment.
