Botswana Diplomatic Missions Abroad Honour Botswna’s 2024 Olympic Team

Botswana Diplomatic Missions abroad, have responded to the national call for citizens and residents of Botswana, to honour the  country’s Olympic Team with rewards, to mark its outstanding performance at the Paris  2024 Olympic Games.  

On 6th September 2024, the Diplomatic Heads of Mission and their staff, contributed a  total of sixty thousand pula (BWP60,000), to celebrate the remarkable achievements of  Team Botswana which garnered the country’s first Olympic Gold Medal, through Letsile  Tebogo’s historic victory in the men’s 200m race, and a Silver Medal in the men’s 4x400m  relay.  

The Missions’ donation also aims to honour the athletes for contributing to the  advancement of sports diplomacy through their participation at the Olympics and for  raising Botswana’s flag high on the international platform. 

Sports Diplomacy is a key component of the work that Botswana Diplomatic Missions  undertake to promote the country’s national interests abroad. Accordingly, through sports  diplomacy, the Missions have advanced people-to-people exchanges, and leveraged on  sports to among others, promote youth empowerment and the national values of peace and good neighbourliness. 

Botswana has twenty-three Diplomatic Missions which comprise twenty-two  Embassies/High Commissions and one Consular Office, spread across the geographic  regions of the world as follows: nine in Africa (including a Consulate); six in Europe; four  in Asia and the Pacific; three in the Americas, and one in the Middle East. The Missions are  mandated to protect and promote Botswana’s national interests on bilateral, regional and  international platforms.
