The Government is to unveil a list of infrastructure and development projects in which it will partner with the private sector through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative. These projects, spanning various sectors, are listed in a document at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

They include among others the Ikaegeng XTL Project which aimed at converting coal to liquids, the Tshele Hills Bulk Petroleum Storage.

Regarding Tshele project, the government plans to construct a bulk petroleum products storage tank farm in Tshele Hills, located in the Kgatleng District near Rasesa. This facility will be equipped with ancillary installations to support Botswana’s strategic fuel reserves.

Another project will be the student residences at Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), Palapye which is aimed at supporting the rapidly growing student population at BIUST.

The government and the private sector will also embark on a project entailing wastewater treatment plant upgrade and reclamation for potable use. The project aims to optimize water resource management and ensure a sustainable water supply for urban and rural communities.

The government is set to construct and maintain a new Magistrate Court in Serowe. A water supply pipeline from Kazungula to Moralane will be constructed and operated under the PPP initiative to help meet the water needs of communities along the pipeline’s route.

Another major infrastructure project is the construction and maintenance of head office accommodation and staff housing for the Botswana Prisons Service in Gaborone.  A key project under Botswana’s regional connectivity plans is the construction of a railway line from Mmamabula to Lephalale in South Africa.  Another project involves the Mosetse to Kazungula Railway Line which will facilitate better transportation across northern Botswana, linking Mosetse to Kazungula. Still trough the PPP mode, in the agricultural sector, the construction of irrigation infrastructure in Pandamatenga is expected to boost food security by improving irrigation systems for local farmers.  The government will also construct a new office complex, laboratory, confiscation warehouse, and a drug incineration facility as well as  constructing a State Theatre facility for the performing arts. Housing units for secondary school teachers will be built across the country..

Another major project will be the Namibia-Botswana Water Saline Desalination Project, which entails the development of a desalinated water conveyance system. The water will be transported from Windhoek’s supply scheme to Greater Gaborone and en-route villages, such as Ghanzi, Kgalagadi, and the Northwest Districts.

The construction of a 300km pipeline from Tarlton, South Africa, to Tshele Hills in Botswana is another critical project. The government has also earmarked funds for the construction of a new head office for the Auditor General.
