Cavista Holdings has officially launched its operations in Botswana, adding to the growing list of foreign investments facilitated by the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC). During the opening ceremony, President Mokgweetsi Masisi highlighted Cavista’s arrival as a testament to Botswana’s evolving role in the global economy.

“We mark a significant milestone in Botswana’s journey to economic diversification, job creation, and global integration,” President Masisi said. He credited Cavista’s entry to the collaboration fostered by BITC, which worked closely with the company to secure its presence in Botswana.

Cavista’s journey to Botswana began in July 2022, when President Masisi first met Cavista founder and CEO John Olajide at the US-Africa Business Summit in Morocco. The relationship flourished over subsequent meetings, including at the US-Africa Leadership Summit, leading to the decision to expand into Botswana. President Masisi recalled, “During that meeting, I extended an invitation to Mr. Olajide to consider Botswana as the next home for his rapidly growing global company.”

The Botswana Investment and Trade Centre played a critical role in turning that invitation into reality. “In the months that followed, BITC worked closely with Mr. Olajide’s team, engaging various stakeholders, laying the foundation for today’s success,” Masisi said.

John Olajide echoed this, emphasizing Botswana’s strategic appeal. “Botswana has emerged as a natural choice to commit to,” Olajide said. He highlighted the country’s infrastructure, political stability, and skilled workforce as key factors in the decision to expand operations. “We started with just three employees in January, and today, we have 16, with 13 of those jobs being in IT. This is proof that Botswana has produced graduates with the technical skills to deliver globally,” he said.

The expansion of Cavista is expected to significantly contribute to Botswana’s digital transformation. President Masisi reiterated the importance of technology in driving economic growth, stating, “With Cavista’s decision to establish operations here, we are positioning ourselves to become a competitive player in the global technology landscape.”

Olajide, who has set ambitious goals for the company, said Cavista plans to employ 100 people by the end of next year, with a long-term goal of creating 500 high-skill jobs in Botswana. He added, “The graduates that are unemployed and ready to offer their technical and transferable skills are an opportunity for Cavista to employ in helping create value for businesses and transform lives.”

Both Masisi and Olajide expressed confidence in the partnership’s future, with Olajide emphasizing that Cavista’s operations in Botswana will contribute to the country’s broader socio-economic goals. “We are in Botswana for the long haul,” he said, reiterating the company’s commitment to job creation and long-term growth.
