Botswana Railways (BR) has announced a temporary delay in the payment of staff salaries, citing cash flow challenges caused by late payments from some of its debtors.
In a memorandum issued to all staff on Friday, the organisation’s Director of Corporate Services confirmed that the delay is unavoidable and has affected salaries that were due on the usual payroll date. Management apologised for the inconvenience caused to employees, acknowledging the financial strain such a delay may create.
The organisation also appealed for understanding, particularly where the delay may affect employees’ existing financial commitments, and thanked staff for their patience and continued professionalism during the period.
According to the memo, employees in salary Grades 3 to 11 are expected to receive their salaries on Monday, 2 March 2026. The notice did not specify payment timelines for other grades.
BR management noted that the delay stems from temporary cash flow constraints and reassured staff that efforts are being made to normalise the situation. Employees who require formal confirmation or further clarification have been advised to contact the Finance or Human Resources departments for assistance.
The organisation also appealed for understanding, particularly where the delay may affect employees’ existing financial commitments, and thanked staff for their patience and continued professionalism during the period.
