Celebrating Botswana’s Rising Communicators

Popular Skeem Saam actor Tiisetso Thoka, widely known for his role as DJ Thomas, this week shared an inspiring message to young people as he graced the 2026 National Broadcasting Summit held in Selibe Phikwe.

In his address, Thoka encouraged learners to follow their passions and remain committed to their dreams, emphasising the importance of perseverance in achieving success.

He also expressed appreciation to The Broadcasters Organisation for organising what he described as a noble and impactful initiative aimed at empowering youth through media and communication.

The event was also attended by several dignitaries, including the Selebi-Phikwe District Commissioner and members of the Town Council, highlighting the significance of the summit in the local community.

Three outstanding learners were honored at this event.
-Botswana chapter after being named the Botswana Insurance Company Young Communicators of the Year-this prestigious award recognises participants who have demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the TBO assessment process and have fully satisfied the rigorous standards set by the Board of Assessors.

In the primary category, the award was presented to Sebaga Otsogile from Phikwe, who stood out for her articulate delivery, strong analytical skills, and compelling presence. Her performance reflected a deep understanding of key topics and an ability to communicate ideas with clarity and confidence.

The award celebrates excellence in communication, critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to engage effectively on issues of national and global importance. Recipients are selected based on their consistency, confidence, originality, and overall impact during the summit’s activities, making this recognition one of the most sought-after achievements among young communicators in Botswana.

The junior category award went to Joy Mothei from the Gaborone Destiny Shapers Club. She impressed the judges with her enthusiasm, clarity of expression, and ability to connect with her audience, showcasing great potential as a future leader in communication.

In the senior circuit category, Motheo Johannes of the Moshupa Circuit was also recognised for his outstanding contribution. His confident engagement, thoughtful insights, and consistency throughout the assessments earned him a well-deserved place among this year’s top communicators.

The Botswana Insurance Company Young Communicators of the Year award continues to play a vital role in nurturing young talent, encouraging excellence, and promoting effective communication among Botswana’s youth.
It stands as a testament to the power of children’s voices and their ability to shape conversations and influence the future.
