Debswana Diamond Company, in collaboration with De Beers Group, is delighted to announce a contribution of BWP 1,160, 000.00 (One million, one hundred and sixty thousand) as a token of appreciation to Team Botswana for their outstanding performance at the recent 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships. Their unwavering dedication, hard work, and exemplary sportsmanship have brought immense pride to our nation.

This is an opportunity not only to celebrate the Team’s achievements but to also underscore the opportunities and celebrate talent that has been unearthed in Botswana through the prudent use of natural diamond revenues accrued over the past five decades.

    Incentives

Debswana has supported sport development in Botswana for nearly four decades. This has been achieved through direct funding and in-kind contributions, where various teams from several sporting codes have utilised Debswana’s sporting facilities at the Mines for their camps. From 2022 – 2024, Debswana ran a dedicated programme to support the athletics team, through which several milestones were achieved.

These efforts reflect a broader, collaborative commitment between Debswana, De Beers Group, and national stakeholders to nurture local talent. A powerful testament to this success is the appointment of Letsile Tebogo as De Beers Group’ first-ever Global Ambassador, a historic achievement that showcases how Botswana’s diamonds continue to unlock potential and elevate local talent to the world stage.

The pledged funds will be disbursed to the National Athletics Team (athletes, coaches, and the medical team) in line with the modalities/criteria below agreed with the Botswana Athletics Association and Botswana National Sport Commission.
