Molefe Nyalala John Pilane is expetced to be officially reinstated as Kgosi (Senior Traditional Leader) of the Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela. The formal formal handover of his Certificate of Recognition will be held in Moruleng on Tuesday.

The ceremony, to be held at the Mphebatho Cultural Museum, will be officiated by North West Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi, alongside the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Gaoage Oageng Molapisi. Traditional leaders, members of the royal family, community representatives and government officials are expected to attend the event which marks a significant moment for the Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela community.

Kgosi Molefe Nyalala John Pilane’s reinstatement follows the resolution of these disputes through legal and administrative processes, culminating in the issuance of a Certificate of Recognition by the provincial government.

The Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela traditional leadership has, over the years, been characterised by leadership disputes that spilled into the courts, resulting in periods of uncertainty and division within the community. Questions over rightful leadership and governance structures delayed formal recognition and affected administrative processes in the traditional authority.

Kgosi Molefe Nyalala John Pilane’s reinstatement follows the resolution of these disputes through legal and administrative processes, culminating in the issuance of a Certificate of Recognition by the provincial government. The recognition legally affirms his position as the senior traditional leader, restoring full authority to perform customary, administrative and ceremonial functions.

The Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela are one of the prominent Tswana communities in the North West, with Moruleng serving as their traditional seat. The community plays a key role in cultural preservation and local development initiatives in the province.

Tuesday’s ceremony is expected to usher in a new chapter of stability as the community looks to move beyond past divisions and focus on unity and development under the reinstated leadership.
