President Duma Boko has undertaken a State Visit to Tallinn, Estonia, from the 19th to the 22nd of May 2025. During his visit, President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko will engage in official talks with His Excellency Mr. Alar Karis, President of the Republic of Estonia.
The discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, with particular emphasis on digital transformation and innovation, education and capacity building, trade, investment, and other areas of mutual interest.
The State Visit will also accord the two countries an opportunity to review progress made, following agreed outcomes of the State Visit undertaken by President Alar Karis to the Republic of Botswana in March 2024.
Furthermore, President Boko and his counterpart, President Karis, will officially open the Botswana Estonia Business Forum on 21st May 2025, an event hosted by the Government of Estonia, aimed at promoting trade and investment between the two countries.
The State Visit will also present Botswana and Estonia with the opportunity to further strengthen existing bilateral relations as well as explore potential areas of cooperation. Estonia, fondly referred to as Silicon Valley of Europe, has made remarkable accomplishments in transforming itself into one of the most advanced digital societies in the world.
The country boasts of the highest number of start-ups per capita on the European continent, successful companies like Skype, Bolt and WISE, and 99% of its public services are available online.
As Botswana continues to foster digital transformation agenda, the stands to benefit from enhanced engagement with Estonia. Diplomatic relations between Botswana and Estonia were established in 2003 and the two countries currently cooperate in the areas of ICT, digital transformation and e-taxation.
