    28th August 2025.

We have noted a number of statements circulating that suggest divisions within our party. Allegations that some Workers unions, conservatives and a section of BDP members are calling on our 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐨𝐤𝐠𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬𝐢 𝐄𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐊𝐞𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐬𝐰𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐢 to form a new political party, are simply not true. We wish to categorically state that these allegations are mischievous. The Former President is also disappointed and not amused by these misconceived and malicious allegations.

Our former President Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi is a firm member of the BDP and most importantly, we respect him as a Statesman. Former President Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi has no interest in joining or forming another political party. These allegations are therefore baseless and calculated to distract us, divide us, and throw us off our path to renewal.

We urge our members not to be swayed by those who thrive on division. Let us not focus on these mischievous allegations, but on the work before us of renewing the BDP so that it remains the vehicle of progress and unity for generations to come. The BDP remains firmly rooted in its mission to walk hand in hand with our people, listening, learning, and finding better ways to serve. We move forward together, united in purpose and inspired by the belief that we can still do good for Botswana.
