Air traffic soars as passenger numbers and flights climb in Q3

The aviation sector recorded strong growth in the third quarter of 2025, supported by rising domestic travel and increased tourism activity, according to the latest Statistics Botswana’s Transport and Infrastructure Statistics Brief, Quarter 3, 2025 .

Aircraft movements increased by 10.7 percent, reaching 26,453 flights during the quarter. Domestic flights accounted for 81.4 percent of all movements, while international traffic also registered steady growth.

Maun Airport emerged as a key growth driver, recording the majority of aircraft movements and nearly all scenic flights, showing continued strength of the tourism sector.

Passenger traffic rose to 273,560 movements, an 11.9 percent increase compared to the previous quarter. Scheduled flights dominated passenger travel, accounting for 71.5 percent of all movements, reflecting stable airline operations.

Maun Airport emerged as a key growth driver, recording the majority of aircraft movements and nearly all scenic flights, showing continued strength of the tourism sector. Sir Seretse Khama International Airport handled the largest share of passengers, mainly through scheduled services.
