As Botswana celebrates its Diamond Jubilee, Miss World Botswana Ruth Thomas will step onto the Miss World Grand Finale stage in Vietnam on Saturday September 5, 2026 wearing a spectacular bespoke gown featuring 60 natural diamonds, each representing a year of Botswana’s independence.
The diamonds have been proudly supplied by Lucara Botswana and transformed into bespoke jewels by manufacturing sponsor KGK Diamond Botswana, and are being sewn into a dress designed by a local designer, Delayna Scott, bringing together Botswana’s diamond wealth, local craftsmanship and international fashion in one extraordinary creation. At the centre of the gown is a striking embroidered neckline adorned with 20 bespoke diamond jewels, with a further 14 jewels completing the principal diamond design. The 60 natural diamonds, symbolises the journey from Botswana’s earth to the world stage.
This year, Ruth Thomas carries that story into Botswana’s 60th year of independence. Miss World Botswana organisers say the gown is more than couture. “It is a celebration of a nation transformed by its natural wealth, a tribute to six decades of independence, and a reminder to the world that Botswana’s greatest treasures can be found both beneath its soil and in the talent of its people.”
Botswana has previously used the Miss World platform to showcase its diamond story, with former queens including Lesego Chombo and Anicia Gaothusi contributing to the country’s growing legacy of bringing Botswana’s diamonds to global audiences.
