The Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) has announced the appointment of Serty Leburu as its new Managing Director, effective February 2, 2026, marking a historic milestone for the diamond trading firm and the broader minerals sector.

In a statement, DTCB said Leburu brings more than three decades of experience spanning finance, supply chain management, governance, strategy, organisational leadership and general administration. Her appointment also makes her the first woman to lead DTC Botswana, underscoring the company’s commitment to inclusive leadership.

Leburu’s career trajectory has been defined by a series of trailblazing roles. She has previously served as the first female Finance Manager at Debswana Diamond Mines, the first female Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Standard Chartered Bank Botswana, and the first female Executive Director at Botswana Accountancy College (BAC). DTCB said her elevation to the top post reflects both her leadership calibre and deep industry knowledge.

Before joining DTCB, Leburu served as Executive Director of Botswana Accountancy College, where she is credited with driving strategic initiatives and strengthening institutional growth. Prior to that, she held senior executive roles at Standard Chartered Bank Botswana and later at the Botswana Housing Corporation, where she served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

Academically, Leburu holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Botswana and is a Chartered Group Management Accountant, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in the United Kingdom. She has also completed the prestigious Leading Across Boundaries Executive Leadership Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

DTCB described Leburu as a seasoned diamond industry veteran, with 17 years of experience accumulated before her tenures in banking and public sector institutions. Her industry exposure includes senior roles at Debswana and involvement in the establishment and development of Botswana Diamond Valuing Company, now DTC Botswana. Her international experience spans key diamond centres including London, Antwerp, Kimberley and Windhoek.

“Her career reflects a steadfast commitment to operational excellence and pioneering leadership,” the company said, adding that her global exposure has enriched her strategic perspective within the diamond value chain.

Leburu’s appointment comes at a time when DTC Botswana is positioning itself for sustained growth amid evolving global diamond markets and increased emphasis on value addition and innovation.

“We are pleased to announce her appointment, recognising her extensive expertise, strategic foresight and leadership capabilities that will guide DTC Botswana toward continued success and industry innovation,” the statement said.

The company said the appointment represents a significant milestone not only for DTC Botswana but also for the country’s diamond sector, long regarded as a cornerstone of Botswana’s economy.
