Absa Bank Botswana Refreshes Spark Mobile Wallet with New Customer-Driven Features

Absa Bank Botswana has today announced the relaunch of Spark by Absa, its enhanced mobile wallet solution. The refreshed platform introduces new features and improved functionality designed to deliver a faster, enhanced secure and all-inclusive digital payments experience.

Building on customer feedback and evolving market needs, Spark by Absa now offers simplified onboarding, expanded interoperability and the ability to send and receive money on any mobile number, whether registered or not. Customers can also perform full or partial withdrawals and transact seamlessly across Absa’s digital channels.

These enhancements reinforce Absa’s commitment to innovation and financial inclusion, ensuring customers can transact anytime and anywhere without relying on traditional branch infrastructure.

Funds can be sent instantly from Spark by Absa mobile wallet as well as through Absa’s digital channels, including Absa Mobile Banking, Internet Banking and Cellphone Banking.
The enhance solutions offer recipients of the funds unparallel choice as they can choose to register immediately, if they had not done so previously, or withdraw the funds at any Absa ATM or through the Absa Agent Partner Network.

Spark by Absa removes much of the friction traditionally associated with banking and advances interoperability and financial inclusion. Designed to support underbanked and underserved communities, the solution enables secure transactions anytime and anywhere without reliance on branch visits.

These capabilities significantly expand financial access and ensure that money can reach anyone, anywhere in Botswana. Spark by Absa is uniquely designed to serve both registered and non-registered users, with the flexibility to make full or partial withdrawals:

Non-Registered Users can receive funds sent directly to their mobile number and withdraw the money at an Absa ATM or through the Absa Agent Partner Network, within the defined limits, without the need to immediately complete full registration.

Registered Users unlock enhanced functionality and higher transaction limits, including the ability to store funds, send and receive multiple transfers, transfer money to bank accounts, perform partial withdrawals, pay bills, make QR payments, request money and split bills.

What Spark by Absa offers:  Customers’ flexibility to self-onboard by downloading the Spark by Absa app or at an Absa branch, no paperwork.

Top up directly from customer’s Absa account or VISA card. Send money instantly from Spark by Absa, from Absa bank account through Absa mobile, Absa cellphone and internet banking and to any mobile number and other wallets.

Receive funds on one’s mobile immediately, secure wallet and withdraw at an Absa ATM or Agent.

Pay bills (electricity, DSTV, Water, on Spark by Absa.

Spark by Absa is available on USSD short code *161*234*5# or by simply downloading on Android (Play Store) and iOS (App Store). Absa has encouraged the banking public to be on the lookout for more enhancements coming on the wallet.
