Botswana Musicians Union (BOMU) has observed with keen interest and appreciation the developments of Music promotion and entrepreneurship this ongoing 2025 festive season. BOMU congratulates and celebrate with all Creative Industry Promoters and Event Organisers who ensure that our music is sold, marketed and promoted; locally, regionally and internationally.

As we have indicated to you in various platforms in the past, the majority of our Creatives are not on medical aid and are not insured. The structure of Botswana economy continues to disregard Creative Industry as employment, and hence service providers are continually unable to come up with medical aid covers and insurance packages suited for the Creative Industry. This makes it very difficult for Creatives to rise up back to normality after they have not been well either; to motor vehicle accidents, stage accidents and or any other health related matter. The economy of Botswana is structured in a manner that closes out Creatives. The neglect of the Botswana economic structure becomes more noticeable when a Creative is not well, hospitalised or needing care that requires monetary input. When the rest of the working population and their dependants depend on medical aid covers and insurance packages, Creatives are often left to donations and merciful expectations.

The economy of Botswana is structured in a manner that closes out Creatives. The neglect of the Botswana economic structure becomes more noticeable when a Creative is not well, hospitalised or needing care that requires monetary input.

We are pleading with you, as we have always done, to continue to have these thoughts in mind as you book Creatives for your events nationwide. We are asking that you help Creatives minimise late night travels. This will reduce possibility of road accidents and other mishaps. We are pleading with you that where possible, please negotiate with Creative Industry Management teams for purposes of overnight accommodation and related provisions. We understand the cost implications, but we are more equally concerned about the health and safety of Creatives. You understand better than we do, that, fatigue is rampant within the Creative Industry during this period. It is both our responsibility that we ensure safety.

We appreciate your efforts. We recognise your robustness; Mistakes will be made, and together we will rectify and correct mistakes. But most importantly we will celebrate achievements and use the challenges to grow the Creative Industry together. We thank you.

Yours in the Creative Industry,

Rasina Winfred Rasina

(Secretary General)
