The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) wishes to sensitise members of the public and prospective applicants of licences under the BERA Act on the criminal activities by some individuals purporting to be agents, representatives or officials of the Regulator.
The concerned individuals are reportedly swindling cash from customers by charging exorbitant fees under the false pretence of being the Authority’s representatives tasked with the processing and issuance of licences. The Authority would like to inform members of the public that it has not appointed any external individuals or companies to process or issue licences on its behalf.
The Authority would like to issue a stern warning to perpetrators of this criminal activity to desist from such an action. Those caught will be liable for prosecution before the courts of law.
Members of the public are strongly advised to lodge licence applications for energy sector activities with the Authority using the link; licensing@bera.co.bw and simultaneously lodge hard copies of the same at any of our offices in Lobatse and Gaborone.
