The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced the commencement of a nationwide supplementary voters’ registration exercise, aimed at enrolling eligible citizens who missed registration ahead of the 2024 General Elections.
In a media release issued on Monday, the IEC said the supplementary registration period will run from January 12 to February 13, 2026, covering all 61 constituencies across the country. The exercise is conducted in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Electoral Act.
Registration will take place at the offices of Principal Registration Officers in each constituency, operating on weekdays from 07:30 to 12:45 and 13:45 to 16:30. The IEC noted that all Principal Registration Officers are Commission officials based at district offices.
According to the IEC, the supplementary exercise is particularly targeted at citizens who did not manage to register during the main voters’ registration ahead of the 2024 polls. The Commission emphasized that voter registration is not only a constitutional right but also a civic duty.
The Commission has called on all Batswana aged 18 years and above, who are in possession of a valid National Identity Card (Omang) and are not disqualified under Section 6 of the Electoral Act, to present themselves in person for registration during the stipulated period.
According to the IEC, the supplementary exercise is particularly targeted at citizens who did not manage to register during the main voters’ registration ahead of the 2024 polls. The Commission emphasized that voter registration is not only a constitutional right but also a civic duty.
“Registering to vote is both a constitutional right and a civic responsibility,” the IEC said, encouraging eligible citizens to take advantage of the opportunity.
The announcement comes as the Commission continues efforts to ensure an inclusive and up-to-date voters’ roll, strengthening democratic participation and electoral credibility.
The media release which was signed by IEC Secretary Jeff Siamisang, urged the public to comply with the registration requirements and timelines. The IEC has not indicated whether additional registration periods will be scheduled beyond February, advising eligible voters to act within the current window.
