Director of Lemcke Ranches, Rudi Lemcke, has donated four bulls to farms under the Remote Area Development Programme (RADP) in Ghanzi this week. The donation, Lemcke said, was only part of his commitment to supporting local farmers and the government’s efforts to develop the cattle industry. Lemcke was invited as the motivational speaker at the Ghanzi RADP Farmers’ Meeting, where he shared his farming journey and encouraged farmers to treat cattle farming as a business that contributes to the national economy.
Having retired from the construction industry, Lemcke has turned his attention to farming, a passion he said he intends to pursue while contributing to the development of the sector. He said his connection to Ghanzi remained strong, noting that the support he received from the community had played a significant role in his success. Lemcke said he remained patriotic to Botswana, particularly Ghanzi, where he was born, adding that he felt indebted to the community that had supported him throughout his journey. He also highlighted his achievements in cattle breeding, having represented Botswana in 2022 at a competition in Texas, United States, where his cow won the champio ship.

Looking ahead, Lemcke announced plans to host a field farm day at Lemcke Ranches in 2027, an event he expects to attract farmers from across the world.
He said the event would, however, place particular emphasis on ensuring that the Ghanzi community benefited through knowledge-sharing and exposure to developments in cattle farming. Lemcke said cattle farming should no longer be treated merely as a hobby but as a viable business capable of contributing meaningfully to Botswana’s economy. He said his continued involvement in the industry was also intended to support government initiatives and provide advice on cattle production and development, drawing on his experience and specialisation in the sector. Lemcke’s 2027 field day is expected to provide another platform for sharing knowledge and strengthening farming practices in Ghanzi.
