The Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB) which is currently unable to pay farmers millions of Pula is shrinking its physical footprint. The organisation has announced the closure of its Setlhoa branch in Gaborone from October 26, 2026, in a move it says is aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening customer service.

The closure marks a change in BAMB’s branch network. This also raises questions about the institution’s operational strategy and the future of its physical presence as it reviews how it delivers services to farmers and customers.

“The decision was made by Management and the Board following a review of BAMB’s branch network. It forms part of efforts to improve operations, make better use of resources and strengthen customer service,” the institution said.

In a press release, BAMB said the decision to shut the Setlhoa branch was made by management and the board following a review of its branch network.

“The decision was made by Management and the Board following a review of BAMB’s branch network. It forms part of efforts to improve operations, make better use of resources and strengthen customer service,” the institution said.

BAMB said customers who previously relied on the Setlhoa branch would continue receiving services at its Gaborone West branch.

“BAMB assures customers that the closure will not affect service delivery. All services previously offered at the Setlhoa Branch will remain available at the Gaborone West Branch,” the statement reads.

“BAMB assures customers that the closure will not affect service delivery. All services previously offered at the Setlhoa Branch will remain available at the Gaborone West Branch,” the statement reads. BAMB did not provide details of the branch network review, including the criteria used to determine that the Setlhhoa outlet should be closed.

The institution thanked customers, farmers and stakeholders for their continued support, saying it remained committed to providing reliable services and supporting Botswana’s agricultural sector. The closure comes as the state-owned agricultural marketing institution seeks to improve the use of its resources amid millions of Pula owed to farmers.
