The alleged recruitment of individuals with criminal records by the Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DIS) is facing fresh scrutiny.
A question tabled by Kgosi Khama IV of Ga-Mmangwato asks the Minister for State President, Defence and Security Moeti Mohwasa to confirm whether he is aware that the DIS Director General told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that individuals with criminal records are being recruited as agents.
The minister is being asked to outline the legal and administrative framework governing the recruitment of people with previous criminal convictions, including the vetting requirements and procedures applicable to prospective agents.

The question also seeks to establish whether Government has reviewed the DIS’s recruitment and vetting practices and, if so, what the review found.
It further asks whether Government will consider commissioning an independent review of the agency’s recruitment and vetting procedures, while protecting classified and confidential information.
