The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO), in collaboration with the Parachute Association of Botswana (PAB), has announced the cancellation of the Makgadikgadi Epic 2025. The annual skydiving and adventure tourism event was originally scheduled to take place from 18–20 July in Sowa.

In a press release issued this week, the organisers cited several logistical challenges, including limited funding, as the primary reason behind the difficult decision. Despite extensive efforts to secure the resources required for the high-impact spectacle that the Makgadikgadi Epic has become known for, current budgetary constraints ultimately made it impossible to host the event at the scale and standard expected.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this announcement may cause to our partners, the skydiving community, sponsors, stakeholders, and all enthusiasts who were looking forward to this year’s edition. Your unwavering support and passion for the Makgadikgadi Epic is appreciated,” the statement read.

Despite the cancellation, BTO and PAB have reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the spirit of the Makgadikgadi Epic, promising a “bigger and better return” in 2026. They emphasised that the event will continue to be a hallmark of adventure tourism in Botswana.

All individuals who had already made payments—whether for participation as skydivers or for tandem jumps—are advised to contact BTO and PAB for refunds or to request that the funds be transferred to the 2026 event.

The Makgadikgadi Epic has, over the years, grown into one of Botswana’s most anticipated tourism events, drawing both local and international adventure seekers to the vast salt pans of the Makgadikgadi for an unforgettable skydiving experience.
