Kasane Primary Hospital has received a significant facelift following a refurbishment handover by Boitekanelo College, in a project aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving patient care in the Chobe District.
The handover ceremony, held yesterday at the hospital, brought together Assistant Minister of Health Lawrence Ookeditse, district leadership, healthcare workers, and representatives from Boitekanelo College.
In his keynote address, Ookeditse applauded Boitekanelo College, describing the refurbishment as more than a physical upgrade, saying it represents an investment in dignity, service delivery, and community wellbeing. He stressed that primary healthcare remains the foundation of Botswana’s health system.
The refurbishment is expected to ease operational pressures and improve the patient experience in one of Botswana’s key tourism and border districts.
“Buildings do not heal people. People heal people,” he said, praising healthcare workers for their resilience and commitment under pressure.
Modern Facilities to Improve Care
The refurbishment includes hospital-grade privacy curtains, patient mobility equipment, protective enhancements, and clinical support tools. Officials say the improvements will enhance patient comfort, safety, and efficiency of service delivery.

Boitekanelo’s Community-Led Vision
Boitekanelo College Founder and President Dr Tiro Mampane said the intervention followed direct engagement with the Kasane community, where healthcare challenges and service pressures were identified.
He said the project reflects the College’s commitment to linking education, healthcare, and community development. “Institutions must become part of the solution,” he added.
The refurbishment is expected to ease operational pressures and improve the patient experience in one of Botswana’s key tourism and border districts.
