Judge Gaolapelwe Gee Ketlogetswe was officially sworn in today as the new Chief Justice of the Republic of Botswana. The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, marking the beginning of Ketlogetswe’s leadership at the helm of the country’s judiciary.
Judge Ketlogetswe assumes the position following the resignation of former Chief Justice Terrence Rannowane, who stepped down due to medical reasons. His appointment brings nearly three decades of legal experience to the role, having served as a Magistrate, Principal Magistrate, and later transitioning into private practice. His judicial career culminated in his appointment to the High Court, where he distinguished himself both on the bench and in court administration.
In his address, President Boko expressed strong confidence in Ketlogetswe’s capacity to uphold and strengthen the independence of Botswana’s judiciary. He emphasized that the new Chief Justice’s vast legal expertise and unwavering dedication to justice position him to lead the judiciary with integrity and fairness.
“Today, I had the distinct honor of hosting the swearing-in of the new Chief Justice, Gaolapelwe Ketlogetswe,” President Boko stated. “This significant occasion marks a new chapter in the judiciary, reflecting our collective commitment to upholding justice, integrity, and the rule of law. Chief Justice Ketlogetswe brings a wealth of experience, wisdom, and a deep sense of duty to this vital role, and I am confident that his leadership will further strengthen our legal system and serve our nation with distinction.”
