Meropa Resources is making steady progress on the construction of a box cut at MMG Khoemacau Copper Mine, a key piece of infrastructure that will provide access to the mine’s underground workings.
The project has moved into a visible phase, with excavation advancing and slope-protection measures being installed. Recent images from the site show a large benched excavation alongside crews securing exposed slopes with cellular confinement systems designed to enhance stability.
The work requires close attention to excavation levels, drainage and geotechnical conditions. Decisions made at this stage can have lasting implications for both safety and operational efficiency once underground development begins.
Though less conspicuous than processing plants or production shafts, box cuts are among the most important early-stage mining works. Their design must allow the safe movement of equipment underground while ensuring that excavation walls remain stable throughout construction and subsequent mining operations.

The progress represents an important milestone for Meropa given the technically complex civil and mining engineering project at Khoemacau, one of Botswana’s leading copper operations.
