Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNet) has completed its 2025/26 Local Access Projects, extending high-speed fibre internet to Moshupa, Ramotswa/Taung and Thamaga at a cost of P43 million.
The project has connected 191 customers across the three villages being, 68 in Moshupa, 66 in Ramotswa/Taung and 57 in Thamaga including businesses, government offices and residential areas. Beyond connectivity, the construction also created 210 jobs for Batswana, demonstrating infrastructure investment’s power to stimulate local economies.
The initiative directly aligns with the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP) and BoFiNet’s mandate to provide world-class telecommunications backbone infrastructure.
“The jobs created and the 191 connected customers are just the beginning,” he said. “This infrastructure will catalyse economic activity and help realise the government’s vision of transforming Botswana into a dynamic, high-income economy where all citizens can participate in the digital future.”
By expanding fibre access, the projects enable retail service providers to offer affordable, high-quality internet while supporting competition and helping reduce data costs. BoFiNet Chief Executive Officer Dr Geoffrey Seleka said the project would lay the foundation for greater economic empowerment and a knowledge-based society by opening up opportunities in e-commerce, e-government and digital learning.
“The jobs created and the 191 connected customers are just the beginning,” he said. “This infrastructure will catalyse economic activity and help realise the government’s vision of transforming Botswana into a dynamic, high-income economy where all citizens can participate in the digital future.”
The completion of the projects forms part of BoFiNet’s broader strategy to achieve 100% national broadband coverage, with a particular focus on underserved communities. The company says the expansion will help ensure that no community is left behind in Botswana’s digital transformation.
