Gaborone– Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNet) convened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Avani Hotel in Gaborone on Thursday, 13 August 2026 bringing together the Shareholder, represented by the Minister of Communications and Innovation (MCI), Honourable David Tshere, and the executive management in the Ministry, the Board of Directors, Executive and Management of BoFiNet, for a comprehensive engagement on the State-Owned Enterprise’s performance, strategic direction, and contribution to Botswana’s digital economy.
The meeting served as a platform for dialogue between BoFiNet and its shareholder, the Government of Botswana, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and the pursuit of excellence in executing its national mandate as the country’s wholesale open-access fibre and broadband infrastructure provider.
Dr. Seleka further highlighted the strategic importance of the Digital Delta Data Centre as a cornerstone asset for the country’s data sovereignty and a key driver for future revenue diversification, positioning BoFiNet as a regional leader in digital infrastructure.
A standout feature of this year’s engagement was BoFiNet’s presentation of its first-ever Integrated Report, demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to the highest standards of reporting and governance. This milestone reflects BoFiNet’s dedication to telling a complete story of how its strategy, governance, people, infrastructure, and sustainability efforts interconnect to create lasting value for its shareholder and the nation.

Addressing the gathering, BoFiNet Chief Executive Officer Dr. Geoffrey Seleka reaffirmed the organisation’s pivotal role in Botswana’s digital future, stating, “BoFiNet is the backbone of our nation’s digital economy, and we are committed to building a resilient, relevant, and sustainable entity. Our engagement with our shareholder today reflects our dedication to transparency and our deep-seated belief that we must create enduring value for the Government and all Batswana. We are proud to have presented our first Integrated Report, which moves us beyond just reporting numbers to telling the complete story of how our infrastructure, people, and strategic decisions are powering Botswana’s digital transformation.” Dr. Seleka further highlighted the strategic importance of the Digital Delta Data Centre as a cornerstone asset for the country’s data sovereignty and a key driver for future revenue diversification, positioning BoFiNet as a regional leader in digital infrastructure.

The Board Chairperson, Mr. Molemisi Nelson Sechaba, reinforced the significance of the engagement and the organisation’s governance trajectory, stating, “The Board is confident in the strategic direction of the company, and we are focused on optimising efficiencies and ensuring that BoFiNet remains a financially sustainable entity that fulfils its national mandate. Adopting integrated reporting underscores our commitment to operating at the highest levels of governance, and we are proud to lead an organisation that is not only performing well but is also creating sustainable value and positioning Botswana as a leader in the regional digital landscape.”

BoFiNet’s performance, as outlined during the AGM, reflects one of the few State-Owned Enterprises in Botswana to achieve profitability consistently without government subvention, a testament to its operational resilience and financial prudence. The organisation’s financial sustainability is further evidenced by its P376 million in revenue, the 99.7% service availability maintained across its national fibre backbone, and its status as one of only five profitable SOEs in Botswana, demonstrating that commercial viability and national mandate delivery are mutually reinforcing.

The AGM reaffirmed BoFiNet’s evolution from a traditional infrastructure provider into a futuristic, digitally focused entity that is both a driver of economic growth and a responsible corporate citizen, with the adoption of integrated reporting serving as a clear signal of its commitment to governance, sustainability, and long-term value creation for its shareholder and the nation.
