The Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) has parted ways with its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Botsalano Mosimokako. The latest development brings an abrupt end to her tenure at the institution.

In a press release, BQA confirmed that Mosimokako is no longer serving as the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, effective August 17.

“Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) wishes to inform its valued customers, stakeholders and members of the public that Dr Botsalano Mosimokako is no longer serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority with effect from 17th August 2026,” the authority said.

It is understood that the sudden departure leaves questions about the circumstances surrounding the change of leadership at the qualifications regulator. This is because the moves comes at a time when the  authority moves to implement its strategic priorities in Botswana’s education and training sector.

BQA, however, did not disclose the reasons behind the separation or indicate whether Mosimokako resigned, was dismissed or her contract was terminated.

BQA sought to reassure stakeholders that its operations would continue without disruption.

The authority said measures had been put in place to ensure “business continuity and uninterrupted service delivery during the transition.”

It also thanked Mosimokako for her service.

“BQA appreciates Dr Mosimokako for her service to the Authority and wishes her well in her future endeavours,” the statement said.

The authority did not announce an acting chief executive or provide details on who will take charge of its day-to-day operations during the transition.

The leadership change therefore comes at a time when effective institutional oversight and continuity remain critical to maintaining confidence among students, training institutions, employers and other stakeholders. No further details were provided on whether a replacement for Mosimokako has already been identified or when an announcement on the new leadership is expected.
