The Botswana Public Officers Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) is celebrating 35 years of providing healthcare financing and medical aid services to public officers and their families, marking a significant milestone in its contribution to Botswana’s healthcare sector.

Established in 1990, BPOMAS has grown into one of the country’s largest and most trusted medical aid schemes, serving generations of members while adapting to the changing healthcare needs of the nation.

Over the past three and a half decades, the Scheme has expanded its footprint and strengthened its role in improving access to healthcare through partnerships with healthcare providers, investment in wellness initiatives and the continuous enhancement of its benefit offerings.

BPOMAS Group Chief Executive Officer, Thulaganyo Molebatsi, said the milestone reflects the confidence and trust members have placed in the Scheme over the years.

“Reaching 35 years is a powerful reminder of the trust that generations of Batswana have placed in BPOMAS. Our longevity is built on consistency, integrity and an unwavering commitment to putting our members first. We have grown with our members, and many families have trusted us across generations,” he said.

The Scheme’s longevity has been attributed to strong governance structures, prudent financial management and a continued focus on member value and service delivery.

According to BPOMAS Chief Operations Officer, Tirafalo Otlhogile, sustainability and innovation have remained central to the organisation’s strategy.

As healthcare systems around the world continue to evolve, BPOMAS says it is positioning itself to meet future demands through digital transformation, improved wellness programmes and enhanced customer experience initiatives.

“Our strategy has always been anchored on sustainability, member value and innovation. Over the years, we have strengthened our systems, enhanced benefits and improved service delivery to ensure that BPOMAS remains resilient and responsive to the needs of our members and the healthcare market,” he said.

As healthcare systems around the world continue to evolve, BPOMAS says it is positioning itself to meet future demands through digital transformation, improved wellness programmes and enhanced customer experience initiatives.

The Scheme is also focusing on preventative healthcare and technology-driven solutions aimed at improving accessibility and efficiency for members.

BPOMAS Marketing, PR and Communications Manager, Lesire Mpotokwane, said the organisation is committed to building a modern and agile medical aid scheme capable of responding to emerging healthcare challenges.

“The future of BPOMAS is one of growth, innovation and deeper impact. We are focused on building a smarter, more agile medical aid scheme that continues to offer value, supports preventative health and responds effectively to the evolving healthcare needs of our members,” she said.

As the Scheme marks its 35th anniversary, the celebrations serve as both a reflection on its achievements and a reaffirmation of its commitment to providing dependable, high-quality healthcare support to members for years to come.

For many public officers and their families, BPOMAS has been more than a medical aid provider. It has been a long-standing partner in health, helping members navigate life’s healthcare needs while contributing to the broader development of Botswana’s healthcare ecosystem.
